First flight from Kannur takes off leaving behind blame game

With the first flight taking off from Kannur International Airport, the ruling Left and the Opposition Congress have now come out in the open blaming the other for the delay in making the airport operational much earlier.
In his inaugural address, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan criticised the UDF for the delay that occurred in completing the construction of the Kannur International Airport.

He said that there was no need for such a long time to realcomplete the project thatan in 1996.
Vijayan alleged that no works were done in the five years between 2001 to 2006. The reason behind that inactivity is still unknown. Later, the works of the airport restarted when V. S. Acuthanandan-led government came to power. The activities including land acquisition progressed rapidly during that period.
However, former chief minister Oommen Chandy said in Kottayam that the construction was progressing according to schedule till the UDF government was in power. The UDF was to complete the project in 2017 when a slight shift in the schedule occurred. This was only because a panchayat led by CPM did not cooperate for land acquisition and quarrying of rocks, he said and added that he was not for any controversy.

Hindu right women activists perform Puja at Taj Mahal

A group of women from right wing organizations on Saturday performed Puja in the mosque located inside Taj Mahal premises in retaliation to the Namaaz performed by local Muslims at the mosque on Tuesday despite the ASI's ban on it.

The women performed the Puja to prove that the monument was originally a shiv temple. These activities have created communal division between the two communities.

They performed the puja with dhoop bati and poured ganga jal inside the mosque premises. They also chanted "Om Namashway".
